To do bigger things with your life, you have to start by thinking "bigger". All change begins in the mind - our thoughts are powerful! To think something is possible automatically makes it so. To believe in change, a goal or a dream is to make it achievable. After your mindset has shifted into growth mode, it becomes easier to identify where in your life you have room for expansion.
Consider your potential to be like a potted houseplant. There are many plants that can survive in a small pot. A pot that is a comfortable home in which to grow, but only up to a certain point. There are some plants, like the crispy fern, for example, that will grow as large (or remain as small) as the vessel they’re in. There are other plants, like the spider plant, that need more space once they have outgrown their pot. The spider plant’s roots can live under major duress for long periods of time - they will contort and squish themselves along the sides of the pot for a long time while still managing to stay alive, but they are only really surviving - getting by, day by day, trying not to die. Changing the pot these plants live in gives them a chance to truly thrive! A chance to dig their roots down deeper, which results in them being able to grow their leaves and stalks even taller. If you think your plant was doing well before, just watch what happens when you provide it with the environment it really needs to thrive! Unlike houseplants, you do have the power to change your own pot. Adjust your environment to better suit you and the growth you want to see in your life. It all starts with the belief that you are worthy of expansion. After you accept that, you will find ways to grow and change so naturally and effortlessly, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start imagining a bigger life for yourself sooner.
This painting is about abandoning limitations - it is one of the largest paintings I have made to date, and I yearn to go bigger, still! The expansion I want for myself and my dreams, my heart and my mind begins with going bigger. This is just the beginning and this painting is an expression of what growth looks like and feels like to me.
